The dry matter content can be entered before or after the viscosity test. Results are held in a "pending results" database. At a later time, the correct moisture % can be typed in and the result confirmed.
Sample Preparation Module
The Sample Preparation module automates sample preparation eliminating sources of sample preparation error. The system uses two syringe pumps to deliver water and CED to the sample vial.
Sample Agitation Module
This module is used to agitate and "wet" the pulp samples, prior to dissolving in CED.
N2 Purge Module
A unique Nitrogen purge system ensures the sample is protected from oxidation during the test. Protection during sample preparation is also provided. This improves the accuracy of results as degradtion of the sample during preparation and analysis is prevented.
Auto sampler module
Automatic safe loading of samples, minimizes operator exposure to handling the samples and allows the operator to perform other duties while the samples are measured automatically.

- Easy to use
- With the auto-sampler, the sample is loaded automatically. Additional samples can be added to the auto-sampler at any time. Without the auto-sampler the operator pours a sample into the viscometer filling funnel and presses the "START TEST" button.
- Safe
- Automatic cleaning on all systems significantly reduces the risk to the operator of exposure to hazardous chemicals. For systems with the auto-sampler, operator risk is reduced further by atuomatically loading samples into theviscometer. Automatic sample preparation will reduce operator contact with chemicals even more.
- High Precision
- The RPV-1 uses a choice of ASTM Ubbelohde, Cannon-Fenske or Low Volume RPVm Ubbelohde viscometers for automation purposes. Viscometers are supplied with ISO 17025 certificates of calibration, issued by the PSL Calibration Laboratory, accredited by UKAS.
- Outstanding Software
- The RPV WINDOWS software program is pre-programmed with SCAN, ISO and ASTM test methods. The PRV software automatically calculates the Intrinsic Viscosity or Limiting Viscosity Number, Degree of Polymerization, nc, K Value and Kinematic Viscosity. Results can be adjusted for moisture content before or after measurement. Results are printed and stored in the user configurable results database for review at a later date. Results can also be exported automatically for use by a LIMS system.
- Automatic "Safe-Vac" Cleaning
- Viscometer tubes are cleaned in-situ after the measurement process has been completed. The RPV uses a "safe-vac" closed loop solvent and vacuum system. A cleaning routine is set up using two solvents. Demineralised water is used to wash the viscometer, followed by methanol or acetone for drying. The RPV-1 software optimises cleaning and drying cycles. This ensures that each viscometer tube is properly cleaned and dried, eliminating the risk of sample or solvent contamination.
- Chemically resistant materials
- The RPV-1 modules are assembled using components which are highly chemically resistant - all wetted parts are manufactured out of PTFE or glass. The RPV-1 case is covered in a tough chemical resistant coating, which is splash resistant to acetone.
- Multi Language
- On request, the RPV-1 software can be supplied in the language of your choice.
- Service & diagnostics
- The RPV modules have been designed with reliability in mind. The modular configuration allows for easy replacement or upgrading. Software diagnostic screens assist in identifying system or component faults.
- Application Testing and Data
- Reports written by the PSL Testing & Calibration Laboratory often form the basis for discussion on how customers can improve their measurement accuracy. In addition they also present data in a way which allows Senior Management to understand the benefits of the RHEOTEK instruments.
