Modular Design
The RPV-1 consists of several modules, enabling a system to be configured to a costomer's application requirements and budget. The RHEOTEKTM AUTOPulpIVATMcontains all the modules to give a fully automated test from start to finish...

Principle of Operation for the RPV-1 AUTOPulpIVA

Sample preparation
A sample of pulp placed into a vial is weighed on the balance. Water is dispenses automatically onto the sample while it is on the balance. The weight of paper and volume of water is sent to the RPV software program. The operator screws on the cap to the vial and the sample is placed on the Sample Agitation Module. Samples are then stirred for a pre-programmed length of time.
CED and N2 are then dispensed into the the sample vials to give the correct concentration based on the sample weight and water volume. Stirring continues for a pre-programmed length of time. Once ready, the viscometer loading needle is lowered into the sample.

Viscosity Measurement
Prior to loading, the vial and viscometer are purged with nitrogen to prevent oxidation.
Samples are then loaded into the viscometer automatically through the unique RPV funnel filling station (samples may also be manually loaded into the viscometer).
After a short thermal equilibrium period, the flow time is measured automatically. Repeat flow times are measured if required.

Calculation of results
The RPV software automatically calculates the Intrinsic Viscosity or Limiting Viscosity Number, Degree of Polymerization, nc, K Value and Kinematic Viscosity.
Results are printed and stored in the user configurable results database for review at a later date. Results can also be exported automatically for use by a LIMS system*
